This New Year, I want to highlight the “secret sauce” of our success at NNEC — our people. They truly are the “light” of our organization, as they are what make us shine brightly in the community with their can-do spirit and their drive to serve our community. In the following pages, you will read about some retirements, our international service, and our efforts to inspire the next generation of energy workers. In the next few months, four dedicated NNEC employees will retire with a combined service to our community of over 120 years. Delacy Dodson, Bobby Franklin, Pat Henry and Ricky Taylor are prime examples of this light. Each has made an undeniable impact on NNEC and our community. Their success has powered our success, and I am thankful to have served with them. In October, Gena Boarman, along with 18 of her peers from neighboring co-ops, traveled to Guatemala and electrified a rural village. We do not have many NNEC members left who experienced life before our community was electrified, but it is a life-changing experience that transforms main measures of quality of life, such as access to clean water, medical equipment and safe food handling. I am thankful for Gena’s service in Guatemala, because she truly lived out our mission to improve the quality of life in our communities, even those in Latin America. In November, several NNEC employees volunteered in support of the Virginia, Maryland & Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives’ Girl Power Camp. Nearly 80 young women explored energy careers at the event. Our participation in events like this will inspire the next generation of energy workers to dedicate their lives and careers to improving the quality of life in their communities, much like Delacy, Bobby, Pat, Ricky, Gena and our other more[1]than-50 employees do each and every day. They are the light of NNEC.
