Rusty Brown Honored with Resolution for Service as Chairman of VMDAEC

At the annual meeting of the Virginia, Maryland & Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives, on July 25, Russell “Rusty” Brown, vice chairman of the NNEC Board of Directors, was presented a resolution recognizing him for his services as chairman for VMDAEC from 2021-2022.

In his role as chairman, Brown was responsible for helping to guide the direction of the Association, which includes 15 electric cooperatives in three states from the Cumberland Gap to Delaware serving nearly 900,000 meters and 1.84 million people in parts of six states. “It has been an honor and a privilege to serve in this role over the last year,” said Brown. “In the Northern Neck, we know the important role that the electric cooperative plays in our community, and there are 14 other electric cooperatives doing fantastic things in their communities. I have enjoyed my role in helping those co-ops in that service to their members.”

Brown made it a point to visit many of the electric cooperative members and to participate in as many of the committees and Association events as possible.

The purpose of the association is to provide services that can best be performed as a group effort on a state or regional basis. Activities generally fall into the areas of communications and public relations, member and public affairs, and safety, training, and education services.

Rusty is also a director at Colorado-based CoBank, a cooperative lending institution. He resides in Warsaw, Va., with his wife, Jane.
