Derek Pierson has been promoted to Manager of Procurement at Northern Neck Electric Cooperative (NNEC). Pierson began his career at NNEC as a member service representative in 2005. Pierson has also had roles in the engineering and operations department.

He received over 5,000 hours of training to become a journeyman lineworker. With his extensive experience and knowledge of the equipment and materials needed for utility infrastructure, Pierson has been a critical member of NNEC’s team assisting with the Northern Neck Broadband Project.

Building on his success with the broadband team, Pierson will lead the warehouse team and manage the purchasing of tools and materials to keep NNEC’s crews equipped, which is essential during storms and emergencies.

“Derek’s unwavering commitment and exceptional work ethic make him an invaluable asset to our team. I want to congratulate him on this well-earned promotion, marking another milestone in his remarkable career with us,” said Pamela Davis, vice president of finance. “Derek will build upon the history of success of this department, which has supplied our crews’ essential work.”

Pierson will work alongside Ricky Taylor, who has served as NNEC’s manager of procurement for over three decades. Taylor will retire in 2024.

“To maintain NNEC’s excellent reliability rating and our operational efficiency, we have implemented a succession plan process here at NNEC. We will identify and develop talent throughout our organization to prepare them for roles that we need in the future,” said Brad Hicks, president and CEO of NNEC. “Derek will now have a significant amount of on-the-job training with Ricky, an exceptional NNEC employee, who has managed his department with distinction for decades. This is a best-case scenario for us to maintain operational excellence.”
