Smart Thermostat Program

Enroll your new or existing smart thermostat in NNEC’s Smart Thermostat program and join a community of members working together to reduce energy use during peak times. These are the hours when demand for electricity is highest and most expensive due to extreme outdoor temperatures. 

When you allow NNEC to adjust your thermostat just a few degrees during these peak events, you help reduce strain on the electric grid, lower power costs, and support a more sustainable energy future for your community.

How It Works:

• Enroll your compatible smart thermostat—it’s quick and easy.

• During peak demand periods, NNEC will make brief, small adjustments to your thermostat.

• You stay in control—you can override a peak event at any time. (More than 5 overrides during a month will disqualify you from the program.)

• Everyone benefits—reduced peak energy use helps keep rates stable for all members.

Members who install — or have already installed — qualifying programmable thermostats are eligible to participate. During high energy-demand periods — typically on hot summer afternoons — NNEC will issue “Beat the Peak” alerts and briefly adjust enrolled thermostats by no more than four (4) degrees.
