NNEC’s EV Rate is now available!

Are you ready to acceleRate your savings while charging your EV?

What is the EV rate? The electric vehicle (EV) rate is a voluntary residential electric rate for members with at least one EV. This rate incentivizes members who charge their vehicles during off-peak times.

Is the EV Rate a Good Choice for Me? The EV rate allows a member to save money when charging during off-peak times, but if charging during on-peak times, the member may end up paying more than the standard residential rate. If a member plans to charge their EV during the day, this rate would likely not be beneficial. We urge members to consider their charging habits before committing to the EV rate.

Rate: Need to Know

  • This rate is 100% voluntary, so the member must request to be put on this rate.
  • Once you join this rate, you must stay on this rate for 12 consecutive months. 
  • Off-peak window is 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., so this is the best time to charge your EV to acceleRate your savings.   
  • On-peak window is 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Are There Costs to Join the EV Rate?

There are no costs to join the EV rate, but there are requirements to join the EV rate that will have associated costs.

NNEC will supply the meter base; however, the member will be responsible for the installation of the meter base. This will require installation by an electrical contractor and will likely need a permit and inspection from the county/city.

NNEC does not provide wiring, conduit, receptacles, etc.

Depending on the proposed EV charging system, there may be some costs associated with upgrading your existing electric service (ex., transformer, secondary conductors from the transformer to the meter, etc.).

Meter/Service: Need to Know

The meter base for the EV charger must be located outside of the structure and provide NNEC unobstructed access at all times.

All locations where meters are not adjacent to each other would need to have placards installed indicating disconnect switch locations, meter locations, etc. per the National Electric Code (NEC).

NNEC will install the meter once all inspections and approvals have been completed.
