Electrical Safety At Home

At Northern Neck Electric Cooperative the safety of our members and employees is very important. Listed below are some tips for practicing electrical safety around the house.

  • Check electrical cords, plugs, and outlets to make sure they are not worn or damaged
  • Keep appliances away from water
  • Check wattage of all light bulbs to be sure they are correct for the size of the fixture. Make sure bulbs are tight because loose bulbs can overheat.
  • Outdoor outlets need ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCI). GFCI'S interrupt the flow of power if they sense a problem
  • If an appliance repeatedly blows a fuse, trips a circuit breaker or if it has given you a shock, unplug it and have it repaired or replaced.
  • Always replace fuses with the proper size replacement fuse.
  • If there is ever any question about electrical safety please call our office.
