Safety
Step Into the Lineman's Shoes
If you made your living as a lineman, it goes without saying you would want your work environment as safe as possible. You can help make the lineman's job safe by putting a little common sense into action. For example:
- Don't hang birdhouses or basketball goals on electrical poles. The lineman will have great difficulty climbing around them, even though you think they are perfectly placed.
- Don't landscape around poles with flower boxes, birdhouses or anything else that might cause harm if a lineman were to fall.
- Don't hang signs on poles because the nails or staples could cause the lineman to slip if he has to climb the pole.
Use a little common sense around utility poles; show your appreciation for those who work so hard to provide you reliable electric service. All it takes is stepping into the other guy's shoes for a few moments!
