Load Management

Water Heater Switch Program
NNEC installs load management switches on its members' water heaters which are automatically operated during peak demand periods as a means of reducing its wholesale power costs. These switches cycle water heaters off during peak periods. Usually the switch turns your water off less than two hours, while the water stays hot for up to eight hours without electricity. Members participating in the load management program receive FREE maintenance on the electrical components of your water heater as long as the switch is connected.

Sign up for a load managment switch on your electric water heater by emailing Customer Service at CustomerServiceEmail@nnec.coop or calling NNEC's Customer Service Representatives at 804-333-3621 or 800-243-2860 weekdays from 8:00AM to 5:00PM.

Air Conditioning Switch Program
NNEC has a qualified HVAC technician from Utility Partners of America (UPA) install load managment switches on members' central A/C units. When peak demand periods occur with electricity in its highest demand, a signal is sent to the A/C switch that will cause your compressor to cycle off for a few minutes every hour during the peak demand period. Your A/C fan will continue to operate keeping your home comfortable. You don't have to do a thing and the vast majority of participants never notice the shift in cycles or a difference in the cooling of their home. This is another way members can participate in consuming less electricity during peak demand periods. Participation is voluntary and 100% FREE. In appreciation of your involvement, you will receive a $25 bill credit on your electric bill.

Sign up on-line for the A/C Switch Program or by calling UPA at  888-521-2595.  Call 888-521-2595 with any questions for UPA's customer service representatives.
