Go Solar with NNEC’s Cooperative Sunshare Program
Northern Neck Electric Co-op (NNEC) invites its residential members to embrace more solar energy through our innovative Cooperative Sunshare community-solar program.
Why Choose Cooperative Sunshare?
1. Boost Your Solar Energy
Traditionally, a portion of the energy NNEC provides comes from solar generation. With Sunshare, you can significantly increase the solar energy in your home.
2. Purchase Additional Solar Blocks
If you want a larger percentage of solar power at your home, you have the option to purchase 50 kilowatt-hour (kWh) blocks of solar power each month.
3. Affordable Solar Rates
-
- $5.46 per 50 kWh Block: From October to May.
- $5.95 per 50 kWh Block: From June to September.
These rates will appear on your bill under the line-item “community solar”.
4. Flexible Program
You can cancel your community-solar subscription at any time without any penalties. Just provide NNEC with at least a 30-day notice.

Our Solar Source
The solar energy you’ll enjoy through Cooperative Sunshare is harnessed primarily from two Virginia solar facilities:
- Cherrydale Solar Farm in Northampton County: 20-megawatt capacity
- Clarke County Solar Farm in White Post: 10-megawatt capacity
These state-of-the-art facilities are the pillars of our program, ensuring a steady and sustainable supply of solar energy.
The electricity is provided to co-op members through a power purchase agreement with Old Dominion Electric Cooperative, of which NNEC is a member.
