Before the Storm Hits

11/2/2007 5:25:00 PM

Northern Neck Electric Cooperative (NNEC) members enjoy the tidal waters and history of the area, but in this pastoral setting hurricanes and other seasonal storms can cause power outages. While we cannot predict when a storm will cause a power outage, you can be prepared with the following NNEC tips. Make sure you have flashlights or battery-powered lanterns and a battery operated radio. Keep plenty of medicine, first-aid supplies, and batteries on hand. Stock up on bottled water and non-perishable foods. Its a good idea to have an alternate location to stay if you or someone in your household has special needs during an extended outage. Prepare an emergency kit with sanitation items and important family documents. Draw water to store such as in big pans and the bathtub for personal use before a storm. When the storm hits, be prepared if the power goes out!

Stay away from any downed power line, tree on the line or anything touching a line. Notify NNEC of any downed power lines, trees on the line, or a power outage by calling 333-3621 or 800-243-2860.
